To label your first plant:

  1. Point your camera at a plant - try to get just the plant you want to identify in the frame, have it well lit and in focus.

  2. Press the "plus" button at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Wait for Candide's Plant ID to come back with an answer

  4. Choose your plant from the list (if your plant is not in the list, you can choose Suggest a match to type in the name of the plant instead)

  5. Move your phone around to place the label on or near the plant you are labelling and press Place label to fix the label in place.

At this point, the app will try to save your label. Sometimes, you might be asked to move your phone around to capture more of the area around your plant. This helps the AR system know a bit more about the space around your plant. Move your phone around slowly to capture more of the area.

Once the AR system knows enough, it will save your area as Unnamed area.

You can now continue to label more plants or give your area a better name!

Naming your area

To give your area a more useful name than Unnamed area, simply tap the button in the top left of the screen, then tap on Rename. Here you can choose from a list of common room names, or enter your own name.

Creating another area

Once you have labelled your plants in one room, you should create another area for other rooms you want to label. To do this:

  1. Go to the My saved areas list by tapping the button in the top-left corner

  2. Tap the add + button in the top right corner

  3. Label your plants as described above.

  4. You can rename this room once you have added a plant

Loading a previously saved area

If you buy a new plant, or just want to check which plants you have in your room, you will need to load a previously saved area.

To do this:

  1. Open the My saved areas list. This is shown as soon as the app opens, or if you tap the button in the top left corner at any time.

  2. Tap on the area you want to load

  3. You will then need to help the AR system re-orient itself. You do this by moving the phone slowly around somewhere you have previously labelled your plants. Essentially, the AR system needs to see what it has seen before so it knows where it is.

  4. Once your phone has re-oriented itself, all your labels from that area will show up in the correct place where you left them.

Moving and deleting plants

If you move one of your plants, the label won't move with it - you will need to manually place the label again. To do this:

  1. Tap on the label to select it

  2. Press the Move button that pops up in the bottom right corner to "pick up" the label

  3. Move your phone around to move the label into its new, correct location.

  4. Press Place label to fix its location.

  5. Your area is automatically saved.

If you want to delete a plant from an area:

  1. Tap on the label to select it

  2. Press the Delete button in the bottom right corner

  3. Your area is automatically saved.
